Classic stories for kids-Don Quixote de la Mancha

Classic stories for kids – Don Quixote de la Mancha

Which would you say is the book you’ve heard about most? Don Quixote de la Mancha is most likely a world-literature classic and one of the most read books in history. But, you’re probably wondering whether this novel is appropriate for little children or not. By all means it is!

The way we see it, it’s highly recommended to introduce kids to classic literary texts, always baring in mind that these texts should be age-appropriate. The original text of Don Quixote de la Mancha can be challenging to understand for primary school children; for this reason, at Smile and Learn we have adapted this fantastic story into a much simpler version, aiming at bringing world literature closer to children from 6 onwards. This illustrated version features two reading levels, a fun quiz and interesting facts about the life of the author or the date the novel was published. We have adapted this story so that children can enjoy reading and develop a love for culture.

In a village in La Mancha, the name of which I have no desire to recall, lived Don Quixote, a knight who loved books so much, he could spend hours reading. Don Quixote wanted to be exactly like the protagonists in the books he cherished so much. So, together with his loyal friend Sancho he sets off on a journey full of adventures. The author of the book, Miguel de Cervantes, had intended for his novel to mock the popular, chivalry books of his time. This is a novel about values like friendship, justice or loyalty and universal themes which are looked at in a transversal way.

On Book Day we commemorate the death of Miguel de Cervantes which can be an ideal moment to read this adventure book with children. You can find the Don Quixote interactive application or video on the Smile and Learn educational platform.
